A Lacquered wooden Table Screen.

The original lacquer finishes of this table screen are well preserved. The screen has an archaic look that is characteristic of wooden structure coming out from the Shanxi region.

All the members of screen frame are moulded and beveled with a pointy ridge in the middle. The top and low parts of the frame are decorated with four begonia shaped opening interspersed with three pointy mitred struts. The two sides of the frame are decorated similarly with three begonia shaped opening interspersed with two mitred struts.

In the center of the frame is a square panel that is decorated centrally with a relief carved medallion of two dragons and Ruyi motifs. The medallion is enclosed with a ring of black lacquer. Beyond the ring is the four corners of the square panel that is decorated with relief carvings of the Ruyi motifs.

The frame and the central carved panel are supported with a base shaped in the good-wish-cloud motifs on each side. The base and the aides of the frame are each supported with two foliage like spandrels. The apron is cusped in the middle with curves extended to both sides that end with the good-wish-cloud motifs.
