A gift box with hand painted pattern.(small)
The three edges of the box is decorated with gold and red images of peony and foliage on a dark ground. In contrast to the dark edges, the front is red with a night orange red image of a playful lion. On the right side is the Chinese characters 太師少保 which have the auspicious meanings of being well educated and protected. A metal clasp with a handle is used for opening and closing of the box. This type of box was popular in the Henan region for storing lady’s brocade shoes.
