A pair of black lacquer armchairs with curved rest. This style of armchairs is often referred to as the horse shoe back armchair in English due to the resemblance of the curved back to a horseshoe.

This pair has lots of details which set it apart from the standard of similar pairs coming from other regions, specifically, Beijing and the River South areas.

The top of the back splat is decorated with the relief carvings of a crane standing under a tree and the low section is the image of a tiger head with its front paws stretching out. The back supporting stiles are attached with flanges decorated with open carved foliage. The central supporting stiles under the arms are carved in the shape of foliage.

The seat is waist and the frames are decorated with asymmetrical bearings. the legs are straight and ended in the style of an upturned horse-hoof with further reinforcement of humpback stretchers arranged in the “bao bao gao” style between the legs.
