A two drawers “Chu“ style cabinet with hidden compartment.
This type of furniture is referred to as the “Chu“cabinet. The common features of a “Chu“cabinet are two- it has a hidden compartment under the drawer and the second is that it can also used as a table to display things. This one is no exception. It has flat top and on the edge of the front frame, there are two exposed tenons suggesting that there are two traverse braces underneath the floating panel. The two drawers are each decorated with a floral shaped metal plate with a ring. Underneath the drawer is a solid wooden panel that is joint to the legs using tenms and mortises.
The legs are square and the front legs are decorated with a hanging spandrel on either side. The profile of the spandrels are in the shape of tendrils.
In addition to the hanging spandrels, there are two small spandrels under the wooden panel that hide the hidden compartment.
